Walpole Artisans Coop hosts Local High School Artists

What's new at the Walpole Artisan's Coop? Terri Lipman has made some unique handmade heart accordion style booklets with her hand painted fabric. Each booklet features embellished covers, stitching, ribbons and other interesting elements. Inside you will find hand painted pages with sweet quotes. These make a one-of-a-kind Valentine for someone special!

Terri Lipman is now, for those who live in the Northern New England climate, dyeing and painting light weight wool scarves in addition to her silk scarves. They are completely machine washable and dryable. Around your neck, they feel warm and soft. Why not wear your art?

Artisans ready for the Ninth Annual Studio Tour

The day after Thanksgiving and what to do? You could do the Walpole Artisans Studio Tour right here in Walpole, New Hampshire.

The Walpole Artisans will be hosting their 9^th annual Walpole Artisans’ Tour this November 25^th, 26^th, and 27^th from 11:00am to 5:00pm each day. This year the artists will present their works at six locations. All of these locations will be clearly marked with the purple and yellow signs, and all locations will have Tour brochures and maps available. Click on images below to enlarge.

As usual, the Artisans Co-op at 52 Main Street, Walpole, is the easiest starting location as it is right in the center of Walpole. In the shop, you will find merchandise by all the artists who are members of the Walpole Artisans. If you’re looking for a dazzling selection of fine, locally crafted art objects, 52 Main Street is a great place to start your Christmas shopping.

Four new artists join the tour this year: Carolyn Kemp will open her studio at 24 Westminster Street. She creates watercolors and weaves delicate baskets from birch bark and paper. Barbara Schupack is a painter who works in oils and acrylic. She will be showing at David Howell's studio at 250 Old Keene Road. Also at David Howell's will be Jeanette Lovett who will be showing her vibrant oil paintings and unique handmade ceramic figures. Curtis Mead, a cabinet maker will be exhibiting finely crafted furniture, cabinets, mirrors and other small pieces. Curtis can be found at 33 Bridge Street in Bellows Falls.

David Howell will be exhibiting his lively abstracts and colorful pastoral paintings. Also at David's studio will be Darren Honey, a woodworker. Darren will be displaying unique mobiles, wonderful cutting boards, wooden earrings and barrettes.

Head up the hill to Bill Shannon's lovely studio (make sure to enjoy the spectacular views) at 93 Barnett Hill Road. Bill's studio is on the left going up the hill just before the vineyard. Bill, a woodworker, will have his finely crafted Mission style furniture and an assortment of other wood products for sale. Joining Bill will be Judy Stalus who will be showing her fine art photography, prints, notecards, beaded jewelry and hand-knitted accessories.

As always, metal sculptor Bob Taylor will be at his workshop in Alstead. He is located at 15 Forest Road, just opposite the giant metal wooly mammoth, one of Bob's more eye-opening creations. He will also have numerous other sculptures, all bits of Taylor-fantasy leapt from castaway metal. Bob has something for every setting, from the garden to the bookshelf.

Don't miss 33 Bridge Street in Bellows Falls where Chris Sherwin produces hand sculpted and blown glass artwork. Should you visit his studio, you can take a seat in the gallery and watch a wineglass or vase emerge from its molten orange core. Be sure to take in the breathtaking view of the Connecticut River below!

Also at the Bridge Street location, Mary Anne Knapp will showcase her polymer clay jewelry and other jewelry made of woven beads. Donna Lund will be showing her pastoral works in watercolor, pastel and acrylic. Joe Beer, a watercolorist will be selling his watercolors as paintings, prints and note cards.

We hope you put on your Touring shoes and travel 'round to visit our studios, to chat with the artists and view their wares. If art is food for the soul, then you certainly won't go home hungry!

Walpole Artisans Host Wine Tasting Event

Dissecting Bordeaux with Wine and Song was the theme for the wine tasting event to benefit the Walpole Artisans held October 14th. Held in David Howell's wonderful studio and surrounded by his vibrant abstract paintings and pastoral art, tasters were lead through six varietals that in various proportions are used to make Bordeaux style wines. An old world Bordeaux wine from Medoc and a New World wine from Napa Valley capped the tasting.

Between tastings the Jess Carr trio provided songs to complement the wine and stimulate the analysis. This was the second benefit of this type. Last year the Artisans held "Wine, Women and Song" with Lynne and Jay Kerr. David Howell served as the sommelier for both events.

Welcome to the Walpole Artisan's blog! We are a group of artists from Walpole, New Hampshire and the surrounding area. It is our hope that this blog will be a way to showcase our members and their artwork as well as publicize events related to art in our community.

Our group was started about 9 years ago as a way to network with other local artists, connect with the community and find a local outlet to show and sell our work. Our current membership includes 19 artists with work ranging from fine art paintings and photography to folk art metal sculptures, decorative painting and murals, furniture and woodworking, fibers arts, art dolls, handblown glass, jewelry and pottery. Along the sidebar of this blog you will find examples of work by our members. Click on the image and you will be directed to the artists' website (if available).

We host an annual artist studio tour and this year is our ninth! Each year a select number of artisans open their studios where the community can see where art is created and perhaps even watch a demonstration. This year the tour will take place on Thanksgiving weekend, November 25th, 26th & 27th from 11am- 5pm. If you are interested in exploring the Walpole area and attending the tour you can pick up a map at our shop at 52 Main Street in Walpole.

Our cooperative shop was opened in the spring of 2008. We are located in the heart of the village of Walpole right across the street from Burdick's, a well known chocolate shop and cafe. Every item in our shop is handcrafted and generally one of a kind. We take pride in offering a unique selection of items that you won't find anywhere else. Our hours are Tuesdays 11-2:30pm, Wednesday- Saturday 10-5pm, and Sundays 11-3pm. We also stay open on Monday holidays. Each artist who is part of the Coop takes a turn working at the shop. Stop by and chat with one of the artists and take a look at the beautiful art created by our members. It's a great place to do your holiday shopping, pick up a gift or even treat yourself.
